I want to apply for a Dairy Decision Consultant

Dairy Decisions Consultant
The Dairy Decisions Consultant program assists dairy farm families in navigating through the difficult decision-making and planning process that comes after 15 months of low milk prices and negative margins by providing them with professional consulting resources.

The DDC program will cover the cost for dairy farm families and dairy farm business owners to sit down with a Dairy Decision Consultant to evaluate the farm’s current business performance, financial condition, and cost of production. The goal will be to explore possible scenarios for strengthening the balance sheet and improving financial performance and to identify strategies for making the right decisions in moving forward.

To participate in the Dairy Decisions Consultant program, dairy farms must apply and submit with the application a current balance sheet and income statement. All information will be kept confidential. A $175 application fee must also be submitted with the application, which will be returned if the application is not approved.

Applicants must:
-- Have a demonstrated need for unique consulting services
-- Show a sincere interest in improving both herd performance and financial position
-- Understand that program will fund a maximum of 15 hours or $1,500 of the Dairy Decision Consultant's time

Participating farms can choose the Dairy Decision Consultant they wish to work with. To access the list of Dairy Decision Consultants approved by the Center for Dairy Excellence, click here. To request a consultant who is not listed as a Dairy Decisions Consultant, call the center at 717-346-0849.

The consultation will involve a maximum of two visits with the Dairy Decision Consultant. The first visit will be exploratory and will involve discussion around the farm’s current business status and decision making process. During the second visit, the DDC will offer their observations of the farm business and a list of potential strategies and options for moving forward.
