Resources to Help Producers

The folks who drive in and out of farm driveways on a routine basis are Pennsylvania’s dairy industry’s first line of defense when it comes to building a stronger dairy infrastructure. You can help your producers achieve their own goals while helping the industry “Top 10!”. Here are some resources that may help.

Online Resources to Help Dairy Producers

The Center for Dairy Excellence host resources on its Web site to assist dairy farm families with dairy business budgeting and planning. Those resources include:

"My Dairy Plan" -- a template to walk producers through the steps of creating a business plan.

"Cost of Production Worksheet" -- a worksheet, available in both Excel and long-hand form, to calculate your cost of production.

In addition, Penn State Dairy Alliance offers several tools to assist with budgeting and planning. Those can be found by clicking here.

On-Farm Dairy Resource Team

An On-Farm Dairy Resource Team, including Dairy Profit, Target Profit or Succession Planning Teams, and the many tools available through it can help dairy producers realize higher production, improved reproduction, better herd health and greater profits.

Dairy PROS Workshops

A joint initiative of the Center for Dairy Excellence and Penn State Dairy Alliance, “Dairy PROS” offers dairy professionals an opportunity to gain new skill sets, learn about new resources, and build stronger networks to help their customers and clients go from “good” to “great.”

Other Resources

This page outlines resources for producers expanding, modernizing, and transitioning their dairies. It also offers resources on improving herd performance, managing animal care, and dealing with stress and transition.
