Dairy Profit Team Programs

A Dairy Profit Team can help producers realize higher production, improved reproduction, better herd health and greater profits. In its first year, the Profit Team program helped participating producers achieved an average profit increase of $249 per cow.

Three options are available to dairy producers interested in enrolling in the program. Producers enrolled in the program have $3,500 in funding available, along with additional resources, to support their team.

Producer Testimonials:

Roy Beardslee, Lottahill Farms, Troy:
There were a lot of ideas that came out of our discussions. We also did walk-throughs of our facility, and team members gave us suggestions on how to do things a little bit better.

Don Risser, Meadow Vista Farms, Bainbridge:
The Profit Team provides another level of accountability to keep us challenged. They help set a direction and give us things to think about.

Tom and Brenda Pepper, Pepper’s Dairy, Roaring Branch:
Everyone takes responsibility together for solving a problem and moving forward toward a goal. Now there’s no more ‘passing the buck’ when things go wrong. Everyone’s held accountable.

The Program:

  • The Center for Dairy Excellence works collaboratively with the Penn State Department of Dairy and Animal Science, Dairy Alliance and the University of Pennsylvania College of Veterinary Science to facilitate the program, with grants obtained by the center providing financial support.
  • The funding for the Dairy Profit and Target Team Program has been made possible by a grant from the First Industries Fund in Pennsylvania.
  • The center provides a “start-up” training workshop for new teams and assigns a support person to each team to provide resources and share successful ideas from other teams.
  • More than 100 producers are now enrolled in the program. Producers participating in the program in its first year saw 25 percent more milk production and $249 more profit per cow.
  • The center has tapped into the resources of the University of Pennsylvania Vet School to provide specialized performance evaluation tools and reports to the participating farms.
