From regulations and recent changes involving Pennsylvania’s Grade A Milk Pasteurized Milk Ordinance (PMO) to the basics of dairy labeling and requirements for Grade A and non-Grade A facilities and products, Karie Williams and Jessica Gehr from the PA Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratory Sciences have valuable insights and updates to share. This webinar will help dairy processors gain a better understanding of PA’s regulatory and labeling requirements so you can better navigate this complex area of your business.

About the Speakers

Karie Williams is a Milk Program Specialist for the PA Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratory Sciences.  Her current functions include overseeing regulatory enforcement for all dairy production throughout the state, staff education, and public outreach opportunities.  She is the lead State Rating Officer and Sampling Surveillance Officer for plants and farms under PA’s Grade “A” program.  Karie is the state delegate for NCIMS and NADRO, attends the DPC and 3A conferences, and sits on the AMDERC review committee.  She has been with PDA for 11 years, with the last 6 years in the specialist position; she was a territorial milk and food inspector for 5 years before that. She received her master’s degree in public health from The Ohio State University.  During the MPH program, Karie completed an internship with the Ohio Department of Agriculture where she was initially exposed to the food regulatory world.  She also has a bachelor’s in biology and an associate’s in veterinary technology. 

Jessica Gehr is a Milk Program Specialist for the PA Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratory Services.  Her current functions include dairy label approvals for all Grade A and non-Grade A facilities throughout the state, staff education, and public outreach opportunities.  She is also a State Rating Officer for farms under PA’s Grade “A” program.  She has been with PDA for 2 years.  Before employment with PDA, she gained over 20 years experience in the dairy program, including 7 years in a Grade A milk plant, 3 years as a Dairy Lab Director at a commercial dairy lab, and 12 years in a Grade A Single Service manufacturing facility.  She received her bachelor’s degree in biology from Lycoming College and received an associate’s degree from the University of Maryland (Asian Division) while living in Okinawa Japan.
