If you’re looking for outdoor, family-friendly events this summer, you can celebrate Pennsylvania dairy with the entire family by attending one of these events in June and July! With June being National Dairy Month and July being National Ice Cream Month, it’s the perfect time to celebrate the 5,000 dairy farms that call Pennsylvania home. Many of these dairy farm families are opening their doors this summer for free, on-farm events featuring farm-fresh ice cream, farm tours, hayrides, baby calves, milk giveaways and so much more.

June
The 6th Annual PA Ice Cream Trail launches on June 1, 2023! A group of 35+ creameries across the state are featured on the trail and are scooping up homemade ice cream all summer long. Many of them are located on Pennsylvania dairy farms. Visit the Ice Cream Trail website to view the creameries, plan your trip, and learn about a fun prize you can receive along the way! Thank you for supporting our local Pennsylvania creameries. The Scooped Ice Cream Trail is brought to you by visitPA, PA Department of Agriculture, PA Preferred®, the Center for Dairy Excellence, and local cows.
Join Central Wedge Cheese Shop for its grand opening and ribbon cutting on June 1! They are a cheese shop that sells only Pennsylvania-made cheese, including cow milk cheese and certain varieties of sheep, goat and cashew cheeses. During their Grand Opening celebration, enjoy free samples of PA-made cheese, milk, meats and chutney along with a drawing for gift cards. Kids can pet and meet a calf from Destiny Dairy Bar, too.

Clover Creek Cheese Cellar is offering a Friday on the Farm and Cheese Experience event with the Huntingdon County Visitors Bureau on June 2, 2023. Discover the art of cheese-making by visiting Clover Creek Cheese Cellar, LLC for a two-hour cheese experience. Only 20 spots are available. You will:
- Get an overview of a seasonal grazing dairy operation
- See how they make delicious cheese
- Get a tour of the cheesery
- Have a hands-on cheese-making lesson
- Taste their award-winning cheese
The Moovin’ for Milk 5K Run/Walk This 5K event is a fun way to support the Fill A Glass With Hope (FAGWH) Campaign. All proceeds from the event will go directly to FAGWH to help get milk to those in need. During the event, the PA Dairy Princesses will have a refuel with chocolate milk station, various activities such as a “milk to you” puzzle, cornhole games and more. Wasson’s farm will have their ice cream trailer open for purchase of ice cream. It is $30 to run or walk in the 5K. All other activities are free.
Join Vale Wood Farms on June 4 for family fun on the farm with their annual Summertime Jubilee and 90th anniversary celebration! There will be a variety of family-friendly activities throughout the day, including: a cow milking contest at 12 p.m., live music from 1-4 p.m., cow patty bingo, hayride farm tours, tractors and classic cars, farm-themed games, and ice cream and sundae specials. The Smoke Em Up BBQ and Rebelz Mobile Cuisine food trucks will be at the event.

Visit the Carlisle Country Market on Saturday, June 10 for the Glenn Peffer Milk Giveaway. A total of 500 gallons of whole, 2% and chocolate milk will be donated by the nonprofit Glenn Peffer organization. During the giveaway, you can also meet a dairy calf from Destiny Dairy Bar and enjoy their delicious ice cream to celebrate June Dairy Month!
Your favorite summer event is back for June 2023! Visit Oregon Dairy Farm from June 13-15 for Family Farm Days. Enjoy an educational, firsthand experience at a working Pennsylvania dairy farm, including: Free Guided Tractor and Wagon Rides to the Farmstead at Oregon Dairy; FREE Samples of Oregon Dairy’s Whole Milk and Chocolate Milk; FREE Samples of Oregon Dairy’s Vanilla Ice Cream and Chocolate Ice Cream; Barnyard Theatre Presentations throughout the day; Stream Study at 12noon and 2pm daily, sponsored by Lancaster County Conservation District; a Lancaster 4-H Petting Zoo; and a Variety of Fun, Educational Agricultural Exhibits (Day in the Life of a Cow, Ag Technology, Straw Tunnel and more!) The PA Dairyman’s Association Milkshakes on the Moo-ve Truck will also be serving their famous milkshakes!
Guests will park at Oregon Dairy (Market) at 2900 Oregon Pike, Lititz, PA 17543 and ride the wagon to the farm.

During the “Cows in Carlisle” event at the Farmers Market on the Square on June 14, visit with a dairy cow, calf and dairy goat from Destiny Dairy Bar. Enjoy local dairy products from local vendors such as Swirly Girl Creamery, Bouncing Goat Soap, and Camelot Valley Fine Artisan Goat Cheese.
You’re invited to an annual farm-to-fork event benefitting the Dairy Excellence Foundation! This year’s event will feature different food stations sourced with PA Preferred ingredients. Enjoy a wine and beer tasting experience, cheese samples paired with PA snack foods, live music, raffles, and more! A Toast to Dairy is a great way to celebrate Pennsylvania dairy, network with individuals from the dairy community, and support the next generation of dairy producers.
Join Harmony Acres Dairy in celebrating June Dairy Month! All month long, they will be collecting donations to fight hunger in their community. They will celebrate on Saturday, June 24th with a milk chugging contest to see who is the biggest Harmony Acres milk fan. Do you think you have what it takes? Stop by the jug hut or visit their website to register for the contest. They will also have a variety of community partners and food trucks at the farm to kick off the festivities. Milk chugging will begin at 11 am, divided into a kids and adult contest.
The Painterland Sisters are thrilled to be combining their two main loves, yoga and the farm, into one incredible event. They will kick things off at 11:30 a.m. with a 10-minute meditation on the hillside of Painterland Farms. They will follow that with a beginner’s level yoga session led by wellness expert, Gena Rasmussen. Sink your toes into the Earth and re-center with the calming sounds of nature surrounding you. After the yoga sesh, fill up at the skyr yogurt bar featuring Painterland Sisters’ skyr, granola from Jamie’s Farm New York, nuts from Elan, and other locally sourced toppings/superfoods. Gena Rasmussen will lead a conversation around the importance and nutrition of dairy.
They will round things out with a tour of the farm where you might even get to interact with some animals, before heading back for DIY floral bouquets with Heather Moon of Westfield Flower Co. Festivities will end around 3 p.m. with a giveaway for attendees, featuring prizes from Jade Yoga and Painterland Sisters.

On Saturdays in June and July at Destiny Dairy Bar, enjoy kiddie train rides at 12:30, 1:30 and 2:30 with Goat Storytelling (like goat yoga with stories) at 2 PM. Their store is filled with fresh creamline milk, including fun flavors like root beer, as well as ice cream by the scoop, as a milkshake, or in half pints and half gallons to take home. To celebrate National Ice Cream Month and raise awareness of the Pennsylvania dairy industry, join the Mercer Northwest Guernsey Breeders Association for an “All You Can Eat” Ice Cream Social on July 14! This “all-you-can-eat” ice cream event features homemade ice cream by a local ice cream shop. The 4-H Park also includes a playground for the kids! The ice cream is dipped with garden spades and severed on plates where you can top it with chocolate syrup or strawberries. Customers can come back for refills until they are “full.”

Celebrate National Ice Cream Sundae Day on July 16 at a 10th-generation family dairy farm! Mill Hill Farms, LLC is opening their farm to the surrounding communities and serving FREE ice cream sundaes and milk. You’ll be able to meet the animals, and they will also have a variety of hands-on, educational experiences provided by their veterinarian, dairy princesses, farm show queen, and farm family members.

The Bedford County Dairy Promotion team will making a very large ice cream sundae at the Bedford County Fair on Monday evening, July 24, 2023. The sundae will then be distributed to all of the fair attendees for FREE until it’s gone!
