Join Us for Family-Friendly Events Across the State This June and July!
If you’re looking for outdoor, family-friendly events this summer, you can celebrate Pennsylvania dairy with the entire family by attending one of these events in June and July! With June being National Dairy Month and July being National Ice Cream Month, it’s the perfect time to celebrate the 5,200 dairy farms that call Pennsylvania home. Many of these dairy farm families are opening their doors this summer for free, on-farm events featuring farm-fresh ice cream, farm tours, hayrides, baby calves, sunflower fields, and so much more.

The 5th Annual PA Ice Cream Trail launches on June 1, 2022! A group of 30 creameries across the state are featured on the trail and are scooping up homemade ice cream all summer long. Many of them are located on Pennsylvania dairy farms. Visit the Ice Cream Trail website to view the creameries, plan your trip, and learn about a fun prize you can receive along the way! Thank you for supporting our local Pennsylvania creameries. The Scooped Ice Cream Trail is brought to you by visitPA, PA Department of Agriculture, PA Preferred®, the Center for Dairy Excellence, and local cows.
Join Vale Wood Farms on June 5 for family fun on the farm with their annual Summertime Jubilee customer appreciation celebration! There will be a variety of family-friendly activities throughout the day, including: a cow milking contest at 12 p.m., live music from 1-4 p.m., cow patty bingo, hayride farm tours, tractors and classic cars, farm-themed games, and ice cream and sundae specials. The Smoke Em Up BBQ and Rebelz Mobile Cuisine food trucks will be at the event along with Woody Lodge Winery and Coal Country Brewing.
Dotterer Dairy is opening up their barn doors on June 11 for an Open House and Day on the Farm! Join them for family-friendly activities and learn more about their love for their cows, land, and community. Enjoy wagon ride farm tours, a petting zoo, food, educational stations, PA Dairymen’s Association milkshakes, and more. They are offering bus tours to DNDunkle Beef Farm as well. All ages are welcome.
Your favorite summer event is back for June 2022! Visit Oregon Dairy Farm from June 14-16 for Family Farm Days. Enjoy an educational, firsthand experience at a working Pennsylvania dairy farm, including: Free Guided Tractor and Wagon Rides to the Farmstead at Oregon Dairy; FREE Samples of Oregon Dairy’s Naturally Produced Omega-3 Whole Milk and Chocolate Milk; FREE Samples of Oregon Dairy’s Vanilla Ice Cream and Chocolate Ice Cream; Barnyard Theatre Presentations throughout the day; Stream Study at 11am and 1pm daily, sponsored by Lancaster County Conservation District; and a Variety of Fun, Educational Agricultural Exhibits (Day in the Life of a Cow, Ag Technology, Pennsylvania WoodMobile, and more!) On Tuesday, June 14, the PA Dairyman’s Association Milkshakes on the Moo-ve Truck will also be serving their famous milkshakes from 10am – 4pm for $6 and giving back to the Fill a Glass with Hope Campaign for Dairy Month!
You’re invited to an annual farm-to-fork event benefitting the Dairy Excellence Foundation! This year’s event will feature different food stations sourced with PA Preferred ingredients. Enjoy a wine and beer tasting experience, cheese samples, chocolate and cheese pairings, live music, raffles, and more! A Toast to Dairy is a great way to celebrate Pennsylvania dairy, network with individuals from the dairy community, and support the next generation of dairy producers.
Visit Maple Bottom Farms on June 19 for Breakfast in the Barn, an event for the whole family! More details to come. Note: When visiting, you must turn directly onto Cunningham Bridge Rd. from Rt 819. Following other directions will get you lost.
Join Harmony Acres Dairy on June 25 to celebrate June Dairy Month! All month long, they will be collecting donations to fight hunger in their community. They will celebrate on June 25th with a milk chugging contest to see who is the biggest Harmony Acres milk fan. Do you think you have what it takes? Stop by the jug hut to sign up or message them on Facebook! They will also have a variety of vendors and food trucks for a fun day for the entire family.
Visit Bear Meadows Farm on June 26 for a Down on the Farm family-friendly event! Enjoy activities for the entire family, including music, food, free milk samples, games, and more. You can also hug a cow and pet a calf while you’re there. With an ongoing commitment to genuine community and sustainable farming, Bear Meadows Farm has an on-farm store with raw milk, eggs, and cheese. Note: Overflow parking is available at Tussey Mountain Ski, a short five-minute walk to the farm.
Join the Mapes family on July 9 for a day at the farm and the grand opening of Mapes Farm Fresh LLC! The event will feature games and kids’ activities, ice cream, and calves to meet. Bring the entire family and see right where your milk comes from. You can also pick up other locally grown, farm-fresh products. A small family farm located in central PA, the Mapes process and sell their own farm fresh, cream-line milk fresh from their beloved Brown Swiss cows.
At Maple Bottom Farms, a Pennsylvania dairy farm and bed and breakfast, they also have a beautiful sunflower maze that is tentatively set to open on July 15 for the 2022 season. They will offer more than 15 acres of flowers, including five varieties of sunflowers, acres of zinnias and cosmos as well as cut flowers. You can pick flowers during their normal operating hours, build a bouquet of your favorites, and pick from over 15 varieties. Photographers are welcome to take photos in the flower fields but must view their photo policy and reserve a season pass. Visit Destiny Dairy Bar at Stover Farms on Saturday, July 16 for a chicken BBQ event for the entire family! Enjoy a chicken BBQ lunch with a side and Destiny Dairy Bar flavored milk. You will be able to preorder at Destinydairybar.com. Enjoy kids’ train rides and an animal petting zoo while you’re there!
Celebrate National Ice Cream Sundae Day on July 17 at a 10th-generation family dairy farm! Mill Hill Farms, LLC is opening their farm to the surrounding communities and serving FREE ice cream sundaes and milk. You’ll be able to meet the animals, and they will also have a variety of hands-on, educational experiences provided by their veterinarian, dairy princesses, farm show queen, and farm family members.
If you’re visiting the Lycoming County Fair, join the Lycoming County Dairy Promotion Committee for an Ole’ Fashion Ice Cream Sundae on Monday, July 18 at 7 p.m.! They are bringing out the “pool” and serving up FREE ice cream sundaes. The dairy committee is also having a special dairy showmanship event that evening.
If you’re visiting the Bedford County Fair, the Bedford County Dairy Promotion team is giving out FREE ice cream sundaes to everyone attending the show ring on Monday evening, July 25!
If you’re looking for a fun, family-friendly summer evening, join the Bollinger family and Penn State Extension for a Twilight Tour of Meadow Spring Dairy Farm. Tour the farm and learn more about the management practices at Meadow Spring Dairy. A third-generation farm, the Bollinger family milks 490 cows three times a day and grows all of its own forages and grain, enough to feed the entire herd on an annual basis. During the Twilight Tour, you can network with your community members, learn more about dairy cows and dairy products, eat ice cream, and have fun!
