Having an accurate and timely bookkeeping system is vital for every business. When there is money in the checking account to pay all the invoices that have been received, many people find this to be a very satisfying activity. When money is tight, it can be less satisfying and more of a juggling act. Accurate bookkeeping is also important to allow for a farm’s tax forms to be completed as required. Lenders may require updated financial reporting to maintain or increase a lending relationship with a farm business. All of these functions are important and required. They are also focused on the past performance of the farm and aren’t necessarily forward-looking by nature.
