August 10: Dairy Week In Review

Total cheese production was up 2.7 year over year to 1.16 billion pounds in June, down 2.3 percent from May. American type cheese was up 1 percent from a year ago, while Italian type cheeses  were up 4.2 percent. Butter production was up 2.3 percent from a year ago to 161 million pounds, down 10.9 percent from May. This was only the second time in the past twelve months that butter  output was above year-ago levels, according to the USDA Dairy Products report released last week. Combined output of both nonfat dry milk and skim milk powder was down 10.4 percent to 214.9 million pounds. Read More
