Based on the July USDA Milk Production Report, the total number of milk cows
on farm in the U.S. was 9.49 million head, a 159,000-head-increase year over
year. From July 2024 to 2025, production per cow equaled 2,063 pounds, up 34
pounds. For July, U.S. milk production increased 3.4 percent from July 2024’s
levels to 19.96 billion pounds, the highest year-over-year growth since 2021.
