March 26, 2025: Dairy Week In Review

Based on the USDA Milk Production report for February, U.S. milk production
experienced a 2.5% dip from February 2024’s total to 17.7 billion pounds.
However, with 2024 being a leap year, comparing February’s daily production
presents a clearer picture. Year over year, U.S. daily production was up from
February 2024’s 627 million pounds to 2025’s 633 million. U.S. daily milk output
per cow increased 0.2% from 67.1 pounds in February 2024 to 67.3 in 2025.
U.S. milk cow numbers climbed 62,000 head from February 2024’s numbers
and 15,000 head from the prior month to 9.41 million head. The highest
numbers seen in the nation’s cow herd since May 2023.
