Total US milk production was up 1.3 percent year-over-year in October to 18.1 billion pounds, according to the latest USDA Milk Production Report. Cow numbers were up 5,000 head from the revised September number but down 40,000 from a year ago to 9.327 million head. The increase in production was driven by a 1.7-percent increase in milk production per cow, with the nation’s average milk per cow at 1,941 pounds for the month. Read More
