Three Central Valley, California dairy farms have reported positive cases of
highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in their herds. After cows from the
affected farms began exhibiting HPAI-related symptoms from Aug. 23 to
Aug. 25, samples from these sites were submitted to the California Animal
Health and Food Safety (CAHFS) laboratories and the National Veterinary
Services Laboratory (NVSL). The tests were confirmed positive on Aug. 30.
Affected farms were placed under quarantine and sick cows have been
separated and are being treated. Healthy cows are allowed to ship milk for
pasteurization. Animal transportation continues to be tracked.
