September 16, 2026: Dairy Week in Review

Based on the most recent World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE) report, U.S. dairy forecasts were adjusted in response to President Trump banning the importation of certain Canadian dairy products. For 2026 and 2027, the U.S. milk production and milk cow inventory forecasts were both raised from the prior report’s estimates. However, on a skims-solids basis, whey and nonfat dry milk (NFDM) export forecasts were lowered based on reduced shipments. Butter and cheese export projections also decreased from the previous report’s levels. Over the same timeframe, 2026 ad 2027 commercial butter imports were raised from prior forecasts and were partially offset by the decreased projections for casein and whey imports.
