The Monthly Call Will Be Held on Wednesday, June 11 at 1 pm
The Center for Dairy Excellence is launching a new “All Things Dairy” monthly conference call to provide a platform for organizations and industry partners to share timely updates, resources, programs, and upcoming events relevant to the dairy community. The calls will be held on the second Wednesday of every month, with the first call scheduled for June 11 at 1 p.m. EST.
“These new calls will highlight current news and developments in the dairy industry, helping dairy farmers and industry professionals stay informed, connected, and equipped with the tools you need to navigate an ever-changing marketplace,” shared Valerie Mason-Faith, Risk Education Manager at the Center for Dairy Excellence. “The June call will include helpful updates on two diseases currently impacting the global dairy landscape, preparedness efforts at the state level, and what this all means for dairy professionals.”
During the call on June 11th, listeners will get updates on the following topics:
- New World Screwworm and HPAI. Dr. Alex Hamberg, PA State Veterinarian, will provide an overview of the New World Screwworm (NWS) situation in Mexico, the current efforts to keep it from crossing over into the U.S., how NWS affects livestock, and what it could mean for the domestic and international cattle industries. Dr. Hamberg will also share the current state of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in the U.S. and statewide, where Pennsylvania stands with mandatory testing, and biosecurity plans and upcoming workshops.
- Foot and Mouth Disease. Dr. Aminata Kalley, Animal Disease Preparedness and Response Coordinator/ Epizootiologist at the PA Dept. of Agriculture, will share the basics and an overview of Foot and Mouth Disease. Dr. Kalley will expand on the current global situation and preparedness efforts that the PA Dept. of Agriculture is taking.
